5 x 2 hour sessions with Author and Playwright Michelanne Forster

 

Does your prose feel a bit wooden, cliched or shapeless? Are you hampered by a lack of confidence or a stern inner-critic? Are you wondering how to shape your idea or successfully revise a first draft?

Whether you are working on your life story, a short story, or a book, this course will help you write in a clearer, freer, more creative way.

 

Taught by experienced tutor and author Michelanne Forster, Playing with Words offers you the chance to experiment and learn new skills in a supportive group atmosphere.

 

Session one - Monday February 20 - Myths about creative writing; finding your writer's voice

Session two - Monday February 27 - Generating ideas; how to find an idea with "legs"

Session three - Monday March 6 - Shaping your story; creating a bond with your reader

Session four - Monday March 13 - Point of view; what is it, how does it work?

Session five - Monday March 20 - Writing dialogue; purpose and pitfalls.

 

All classes will start promptly at 10 am.

Tutor Biography

Michelanne Forster has published books for children, short stories and plays. Her work has been performed on television and radio, and by theatre companies throughout New Zealand and overseas. She has been awarded The Buckland Prize for Literature, The Ursula Bethell/Canterbury University Writer in Residence and the Michael King/University of Auckland Writing Fellowship. She taught creative writing classes for Auckland University's Continuing Education Programme from 2008-2016.
